The Heritage Gallery Jaeger-LeCoultre, Switzerland

The Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre’s vision was to place its collections within the context of Swiss clock and watch making tradition. The brand was founded by Antoine LeCoultre in 1833 and for over 170 years has been capitalising on its innovation and know-how in the Vallée de Joux, establishing its name and telling its story. Major innovations, the elaborate complexity of its “grands complications”, great masterpieces and key pieces from the world of watch and clock making showcase the history of a brand which has made its mark as the most prestigious worldwide. Our task was to relay the Manufacture’s chosen image to an international audience through its history and heritage.

The exhibition is structured around the history of time. Illustrated and contextualised, it forms the backbone of the script which recounts the chronology of the great moments in the Manufacture’s history. To add an element of surprise and make provision for visits of varying lengths, alternative themes supplement the information available and provide a digression from the chronology of events.

As the visitor progresses through the exhibition, the world of Jaeger-LeCoultre unfolds as he experiences the beauty, historical perspective and heritage of the brand. With the collections of timepieces taking centre stage, the museography aims to entice the visitor to see these extremely delicate movements of the “grandes complications” in a completely different light.
